Episode 008: A Prayer for God to Teach Us His Ways
Today's prayer for God to teach us His ways is founded on Psalm 25:4-5 (AMP):
"Let me know Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. Guide me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; For You [and only You] I wait [expectantly] all the day long."
Today we are praying for God to teach us His ways and help us to wait on Him with great expectation every day above everything else in this life. Praying for a fresh connection with Him that will give us the capacity to love each other well.

Hello, hello, friends. Welcome back to another episode of the Praying Couple Podcast. We're your hosts, Mike and Carly Kirchhoff. And today we are thrilled to be praying a prayer that we have entitled God Teach Us Your Ways. Can I get an Amen?
SPEAKER_00:Amen.
Carlie K.:In all seriousness, though, today our prayer is going to be derived from Psalm 25, verses 4 and 5 in the Amplified Bible. And it reads, Let me know your ways, O Lord. Teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth, and teach me. For you are the God of my salvation. For you and only you, I wait expectantly all the day long.
SPEAKER_00:This scripture is powerful because God, God is saying, He's allowing us, He's inviting Himself to us as we come into His Word. His Word, see it as a personal, intimate, okay? Where God shows us who we are in Him, His unconditional love. I know when I was in Afghanistan, I was in combat in the army, and I remember Carly sending me a Bible. And when I when I received it, I started no, I started off first just reading it, and then it became real, so real to me, where God was literally the words off the pages, it was him speaking to me. It made it personal. And that's this is what God, when we make this choice to say, God, teach me your path, show me your ways. Yes, we might have experienced different things along the way in life, but when we put God's word first, when we make it personal, God will begin to show us who we are. He'll begin to talk to us with a still small voice. He'll begin to say, you know what, you or your spouse might not need this, but they might need that. You might need a listen. Those extra words come from God showing us who we are in Him. And when we do that, it becomes so personal, so intimate.
Carlie K.:It's true. And I love how this verse is not only like you said, God invites us into his world, he's revealing himself to us through his word. But another amazing facet of this is that we know that when we pray his will, we pray his word, that it actually is going to happen. Yes. So we can be confident in the fact that as we are asking God to show us his ways, yes, to show me his paths, not the paths we you know, we know the scripture that says many are the plans of a man's heart, but the Lord determines his steps. And I love how it also we're asking him to guide us in his truth, teach us in your truth.
SPEAKER_00:Yes.
Carlie K.:But then also I love how the verse is or the verse five, how it's talking about you know, declaring who he is, reminding ourselves of who he is. You're the God of my salvation. I would not be saved, I would not be forgiven, I would not be where I'm at today. I wouldn't have a testimony to be sharing with people around the world through this ministry if I didn't have a God that was the God of my salvation. So and I love too that this verse also, though, at the very end of verse five, it talks about waiting for him only, expectantly all the day long. So a lot of people wait for things, but they're not waiting for the Lord.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
Carlie K.:So this is very, very powerful because we need God to teach us his ways. We need him to show us exactly how we can be that person that is waiting on him. If we have things going on in our marriage that are difficult, or perhaps nothing is difficult in your marriage, maybe there's just a difficulty that you guys are facing together as a team and you're overcoming in life. Whatever it may be, we need God to teach us his ways. Yes. So we're gonna go ahead and pray. Father God, we just praise you. We thank you for your gift of salvation. Thank you. We know, God, we recognize that without you, we would be nothing. But because of you, we are able to be bearers of light, bearers of your image, God, carriers of your glory. Father God, as children of light, we are blessed to be able to come directly to you and ask you to guide us in your truth, to teach us, to ask you to show us your ways, God. We don't want the path that we can see. We desire to know the path that you've designed for us, for us to inherit that promise through faith. So, Father God, as we stand on faith in your word that we know is true, we are waiting expectantly for you, Father, all day long. I pray right now, Father God, for marriages, married couples who are listening to this podcast and this prayer right now, that you would touch their hearts with divine wisdom, that you would speak to them clearly, God, that the answers that they are seeking, we come in agreement right now that wisdom, the wisdom of God, would fall upon them and it would make the path clear, that you would untangle the messes that they've made and you would make their paths straight. I pray, Father God, for the marriages that are on at on the line, because people are going their own way and they're not expectantly waiting for you. I pray for those marriages, God. I pray that those people return to their first love, that they would come back to the Father, they would come back to the God of their salvation and that you would show them your ways, Father. I thank you that we know that when two or three agree is touching anything, that it shall be done. Father God, we're just asking in the name of Jesus that whatever your people who are under the sound of our voice in this prayer need, whatever they need, that you are supplying that need because of your goodness and your riches and your glory in Christ Jesus. I pray also, Father God, thanking you in advance for restoration to the soul. I feel like there are people who are listening to this prayer, God, who are needing rest in their soul. They're tired, God. They've been through many things, they've been standing on your word and they need to hear from you a fresh word, a fresh word, a new idea, a fresh path, new ideas. God, I'm thanking you that you are teaching your people new ways to love. Yes, that you are showing us paths of righteousness for your name's sake, and that along these paths, you are showing us how to love one another and to love one another well. So, God, again, I just thank you in advance for your goodness. I thank you that you are guiding your people, married couples in particular, in your truth, and you are teaching us hallelujah, the way to your path. God, we love you and we praise you in Jesus' mighty name.
SPEAKER_00:God, I stand in agreement. God, we need you to continually teach us your ways. God, help us to just receive your word, making it personal, making it real. You're always speaking, but help us to be in position and following you to receive your word, to allow your word to heal us, to touch us, to restore us, whatever we're going through in marriage, individually, whatever's going on. Help us to not focus on our circumstance, but to focus on your son Jesus and allowing your word to be so real and so personal. God, I just thank you, God, that you're able to make all grace abound. God, we choose not to dwell on situations, but we choose to wait upon you expectantly, knowing, God, that you are going to continually change us, minister to us, help us to just get closer to you. God, I speak life over marriages right now. I thank you, God, that marriages are being changed right now because your word is being revealed to them. It's becoming personal, not just words off the pages, but it's a it's you speaking, speaking your breath, your words over their marriage, over their pain, over their situation. God, we take you at your word and we thank you that the Holy Spirit is here and is here ministering, guiding us, teaching us how to receive from you. So, God, we thank you for all these things in Jesus' name.
Carlie K.:Amen.
SPEAKER_00:Amen.
Carlie K.:So, is there anything else you want to share? No. All right. Well, we are so grateful for you guys joining us, listening in, and just the fact that you're praying for your marriage shows us a lot about who you are. Just know that we are praying for you every day. We are coming into agreement with the children of God because the truth is God wants to restore marriage back to his kingdom. And so we need to stay in prayer. We love you, and we will see you next week.
